Livorno Mercato still busy every day

The Central Mercato in Livorno was amazingly not damaged by WWII bombing.

This 18th-century, art nouveau-style building is an easy walk from the Piazza Cavour in the center of Livorno.

.

Turning the wrong way as I started my walk to the Central Market I found a local woman going for her daily shopping.  she kindly allowed me ot walk wit her and patiently tried to understand my questions in my 'broken' Italian.

Today she purchased rabbit for dinner.

About 1/3 of the market is devoted to fish.  Some varieties I did not recognize and the very small fish (below)   about 1 inch long, had prominent eyes that were disturbing......

Bring your own bottle and fill it with wine

I am always surprised how expensive eggs are in Italy.   This is for 6 eggs.  and they are NOT refrigerated here or in the supermarket

All types of grains and beans.  Most I have never tried

Entire stalls devoted to pet products

Many cheese stalls selling all varieties

This shop had cleaning and personal care items and the lovely woman found me a single bar of soap!

Outside the market is a large clothing market and a few streets beyond is the fruit market.

This is the location of the ONLY internet store I found that I could download all my emails.   McDonalds offers wifi but it did not work the day I was there

Traveler note:  there is a public bathroom in the lower right hand corner of the building
